Pepper's Ghost / projection gauze
Pepper's Ghost is a stage technique that dates back to the 19th century. An image is reflected off angled glass or a clear film, so it appears to sit in the same space as the stage or the objects behind it.
Projection gauze works in a similar way. A fine, see-through mesh is hung across the stage and an image is projected onto it. With the right lighting, the image seems to hang in the air while the stage behind stays visible.
Neither method is laser holography.

Things to know before you enquire
- It is a production, not a box. These setups need rigging, projection and careful lighting. Allow time for build and rehearsal.
- Darkness matters. The effect needs controlled light. It suits theatres, halls and blacked-out spaces.
- Viewing angle. The audience needs to sit within a set angle to the screen. The supplier will plan this with your venue.
- Venue. Tell us the venue name and stage size if you have them. The supplier may need a site visit.
- Content. Content is usually filmed specially. Tell us if you have it or need it made.
